QBronze87 | Quantum Computing and Programming Workshop, July 15-20, 2022

We are pleased to announce the second QBronze quantum programming workshop in Libya! Join us for the introductory workshop “Quantum Computing and Programming” and learn the basics of quantum computing and how to write simple quantum programs. This quantum workshop is part of QSpring2022 project!

We are inviting high school students, university and graduate students, researchers, professors, and industrial people from Libya. During the quantum programming workshop, we will use the introductory tutorial Bronze-Qiskit by QWorld. We will use Discord to communicate with each other and conduct the workshop by Zoom meetings. The tutorial and online lectures will be in English, and mentoring will be available both in English & Libyan Arabic if needed (via Discord).

We will share homework via QWorld Canvas (five homework assignments, in total 100 pts). The participants who complete them all successfully (at least 50% for each) with at least 50 pts in total, will earn their diplomas!

Participants will be watching the lecture videos and completing the tasks on their own. Mentor support will be provided for participants to ask their questions and share their progress with mentors. The workshop will be held over 5 days, with a total of 20 hours of training.


Preparation Day | Friday 15 July (EET)

20:30 – 22:30 – Instructors will provide the essential programming techniques using python. This will give the participants a robust head start to improve their coding skills to start their quantum programming journey. Also mentors will be available to help the participants who had issues with the installation of everything needed for the workshop.


Day 1 | Saturday 16 July (EET)

20:30 – 22:30 – Welcome session with explanations. 

Participants will work on the notebooks of the day. The proposed ones for the first day introduce the basic concepts of bits, and IBM’s tool Qiskit to simulate quantum circuits/programs.


Day 2 | Sunday 17 July (EET)

20:30 – 22:30 – Summarized explanation of the notebooks covered during the previous day and a Q&A session.

Participants will work on the notebooks of the day. The proposed ones for the second day deal with quantum bits, how they can be visualized and the basic quantum concepts of superposition, measurement and some examples of possible quantum operations on qubits.


Day 3 | Monday 18 July (EET)

20:30 – 22:30 – Summarized explanation of the notebooks covered during the previous day and a Q&A session.

Participants will work on the notebooks of the day. The proposed ones for the third day are related to quantum tomography, two-qubit systems and some common operations used in quantum algorithms.


Day 4 | Tuesday 19 July (EET)

20:30 – 22:30 – Summarized explanation of the notebooks covered during the previous day and a Q&A session.

Participants will work on the notebooks of the day. The proposed ones for the fourth day deal with the concept of entanglement and its use to the transmission of quantum information via superdense coding and quantum teleportation.


Day 5 | Wednesday 20 July (EET)

20:30 – 22:30 – Summarized explanation of the notebooks covered during the previous day and a Q&A session.

Participants will work on the notebooks of the day. The proposed ones introduce the basic concepts to the implementation of one of the first quantum algorithms that outperformed the classical one: Grover’s Search Algorithm.


The participants are expected to work individually at least 16 hours to complete the following sections of Bronze-Qiskit: basics of classical systems, basics of quantum systems, basic quantum operators, quantum correlation and quantum protocols, and quantum search algorithm.

The tutorial is a collection of Jupyter notebooks, and each notebook has a recorded lecture. We use python to solve the tasks and Qiskit library to code quantum programs. The participants should know at least one programming language, and they should make themselves familiar with Python before the workshop if they do not know Python. We will share the installation instructions and a few notebooks on basics of mathematics and participants should review them before the workshop starts.

Our event is dedicated to providing a harassment-free workshop experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any event venue, including talks, workshops, parties, Twitter and other online media.
