QBronze138 | QEgypt (August 2024)

QBronze138 | Quantum Computing and Programming Workshop, August 11-15, 2024

We are happy to announce next quantum programming workshop in Egypt! Join us for the introductory workshop “Quantum Computing and Programming”. Learn the basics of quantum computing and how to write simple quantum programs.

We are inviting high school students, university and graduate students, researchers, professors, and industrial people. During the workshop, we will use the introductory tutorial Bronze-Qiskit by QWorld. We will use Microsoft Teams to communicate with each other and conduct the workshop. Jupyter notebooks will be in English, and lectures will be in Arabic language. The workshop will be held over 5 days.

We will share daily homeworks via QWorld Canvas (five homeworks, in total 100 pts), and the participants who complete them all successfully (at least 50% from each) with at least 70 pts in total, will earn their diplomas!

All material will be explained on Microsoft Teams by the workshop leader. Participants will be given time to work on the problems before moving to the discussion of solutions. Mentor support will be provided for participants to ask their questions and share their progress with mentors.

Day 1 | Sunday 11 August, 17:00 – 20:00 (GMT+3)
Basics of classical systems:
One Bit | Coin Flipping | Coin Flipping Game | Probabilistic States | Probabilistic Operators | Two Probabilistic Bits | Qiskit Installation and Test.

Mentors will be available to help the participants who had issues installing everything needed for the workshop.

Individual work (with mentors’ support) until 20:30 (GMT+3).

Day 2 | Monday 12 August, 17:00 – 20:00 (GMT+3)
Basics of quantum systems:
Quantum Coin Flipping | First Quantum Programs with Qiskit | Hadamard Operator | One Qubit | Quantum State | Superposition and Measurement | Visualization of a (Real-Valued) Qubit.

Individual work (with mentors’ support) until 20:30 (GMT+3).

Day 3 | Tuesday 13 August, 17:00 – 20:00 (GMT+3)
Quantum operators on a (real-valued) qubit:
Operations on the Unit Circle | Rotations | Reflections | Quantum Tomography | Two Qubits | Phase Kickback.

Individual work (with mentors’ support) until 20:30 (GMT+3).

Day 4 | Wednesday 14 August, 17:00 – 20:00 (GMT+3)
Entanglement and protocols:
Entanglement and Superdense Coding | Quantum Teleportation | Multiple Control Constructions.

Individual work (with mentors’ support) until 20:30 (GMT+3).

Day 5 | Thursday 15 August, 17:00 – 20:00 (GMT+3)
Grover’s search algorithm:
Inversion About the Mean | Grover’s Search: One Qubit Representation | Grover’s Search: Implementation.

Individual work (with mentors’ support) until 20:30 (GMT+3).

The participants are expected to work individually at least 16 hours to complete the following sections of Bronze-Qiskit: basics of classical systems, basics of quantum systems, basic quantum operators, quantum correlation and quantum protocols, and quantum search algorithm.

The tutorial is a collection of Jupyter notebooks, and each notebook has a recorded lecture. We use python to solve the tasks and Qiskit library to code quantum programs. The participants should know at least one programming language, and they should make themselves familiar with Python before the workshop if they do not know Python. We will share the installation instructions and a few notebooks on basics of mathematics and participants should review them before the workshop starts.

Application for our quantum programming workshop

You may apply for the workshop by filling out the application form until August 9, 2024, 23:59 (GMT+3). Applications later than the deadline won’t be taken into consideration.
